In Between Freelancing

Writer's picture: Xavier CarpioXavier Carpio

Being your own boss is great. You can make your own schedule and do whatever you want to do, right? For the most part, yes, but be smart. Freelancing is a tough thing to do. there is plenty of competition and everyone is scrambling to find their next project. it is not reliable or consistent that having a regular job. With that being said, it is not a bad thing and it is do-able. Here are some things you can do if you are waiting for the next big project to come your way.

1. Practice.

They don't lie when they say practice makes perfect. In order to stay at peak performance, practice with some imaginary clients. Make logos that you find fun or draw things that you like to draw. It does not matter what you create, but it is important to keep your brain active.

2. Visit old projects.

In our field, the word "Perfect" does not exist. As creatives, we will never be satisfied with our final projects. There is only a reasonable stopping point for us. Take the downtime to revisit past projects you know you can make better. Brush up on things you questioned in the past. It is good to step away from something and come back to it later with fresh eyes.

3. Work on your brand.

The most sacred project is your own business. take the time to reflect and revisit your brand and identity. Remember why you are doing what you do. Maybe its time for a new look or a tweak in your logo. Work on your portfolio and advertise yourself to the world.
